Countdown to Doctor Who - Day 1: The Empty Child/The Doctor Dance
The new season of Doctor Who premieres in 2 weeks! And in order to get ready for the premiere, I will be watching one  of my favorite episodes a day leading up to it! (I’m counting 2 part episodes as one). I’ll be going through them in chronological order, starting with the 9th Doctor and working my way up to the 11th.
These two episodes are my favorite 9th Doctor episodes, and also the ones that hold up the best. There are a lot of episodes and moments in the first season that holds a special place in my heart, but frankly they are kind of hard to watch 7 years later.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances has a few things going for it. It was the first really scary episode of the new series, and the creep factor really holds up. Watching a gas mask emerge from inside a dude’s mouth is never not unsettling. And because of these episodes I will forever associate gas masks with the phrase “Are you my mummy?”
These episodes also had the introduction of Captain Jack Harkness who is one of my favorite characters in the Who Universe. He’s so dreamy.
